The Energetics of Space

The spaces we exist within not only engage us in the physical realm (touch, sight, sound, smell) but also on emotional and spiritual planes. Objects contain memories and they can transport us back in time to places and people who left impressions on us.

‘‘Touch is the sensory mode which integrates our experiences of the world and ourselves.’’

— Juhani Pallasmaa

Having objects that remind you of your past and your ancestry can be very grounding and supportive—or it can be oppressive.

For example, my dad is a collector of paperweights. Over the years, he has gifted several to me. When I hold them, it reminds me of him. I love this. As a Canadian living in the UK, I find it grounding and comforting to have objects from my family in my home.

However, some objects hold memories of difficult times and/or they no longer align with who you are evolving into. Common examples include:

  • Blankets, clothing or objects used during a difficult time.

  • Letters & gifts from past relationships that contain difficult feelings.

  • Furniture and objects that you don’t like—even if you feel a ‘duty’ to keep them.

  • Objects that have been unused for many years, collecting dust and taking up space.

Often these objects need to have their ‘energetic chord’ cut from my clients to help them feel lighter—which means donating or selling them. However, for objects that are less ‘charged’ you can perform rituals to cleanse them and clear the energy in your home. This includes:

  • Opening the windows, and letting the fresh air circulate and the light shine in.

  • Reshuffling your objects and taking care to ensure they are all cleaned and cared for.

  • Burning sage.

  • Working with crystals.

Above all, I recommend being intentional about what you keep and bring into your home or workspace.

‘‘Have nothing in your houses that you do not know to be useful or believe to be beautiful.’’

— William Morris

Our latest project: ‘Sci-Fi Apartment, a wheelchair accessible design.’

We are so excited to share some photographs of our latest project, ‘Sci-Fi Apartment,’ a wheelchair accessible private residence in London. The design was inspired by our client’s love Star Wars. It was wonderful and very inspiring to work with him. Photography by Athina Kontos.

Light wood cupboards against a wall, next to R2 D2. On the wall are three wooden floating shelves hung up by iron bars. With an assortment of shelf items and books.

We picked the smoothest parquet flooring we could find, to ensure that when our client rolls over the floor on his wheelchair, it is as comfortable as possible.

Mid-century furniture designs were incorporated throughout the property. This aligned to the sci-fi concept design, because in the US during the 1950s, there was a growing interest in space travel. You can learn more by researching ‘Atomic Age Design.’

Our client has limited mobility in his hands, so voice & app automated lights and window dressings were installed throughout the apartment to give him as much independence as possible.

The Master Bedroom includes accessibility features such as a rise & fall bed, voice & app automated window dressings and lights.
