Community: Hotel Designs

This month, Hotel Designs released episode 29 of DESIGN POD, where I’m interviewed by Hamish Kilburn about Be-kin and my design philosophy.

Hamish is the Editor of Hotel Designs, and both he and Katy Phillips (who is a Publisher at Hotel Designs) have become real advocates for Be-kin and friends. Together, we created a wellness series for Hotel Designs, co-created a workshop called The Art of Water for Hansgrohe during London Design Week and continue to imagine and plan more collaborations that support community, wellbeing, and good design.

If you listen to the podcast, I think you will also get a sense of all the fun we have together. Hamish—I appreciated your ‘ritual of bathing’ shout-out this week on Instagram!!!

“Energy moves in waves. Waves move in patterns. Patterns move in rhythms. A human being is just that, energy, waves, patterns, rhythms. Nothing more. Nothing less. A dance.”

— Gabrielle Roth

Community: 5Rhythms

Have you heard of 5Rhythms? 5Rhythms is a movement meditation practice that was developed by Gabrielle Roth in the 1970s. Simply put: “5Rhythms is a dynamic movement practice—a practice of being in your body—that ignites creativity, connection, and community.” (Online citation).

If you are seeking a way to explore your own creativity within community, have a look into 5Rhythms. It’s difficult for me to explain it’s magic in words and is best experienced. No dance training is required. I’ve danced with a wide range of cognitive, physical, and sensory abilities—the practice is very inclusive.

I practice with Ajay at Colet House most Thursday evenings. If you feel inspired, join me.

Community: Be-kin Marketplace

Are you looking for a new bed & headboard?

One of our clients has a beautiful woven headboard and wooden base, that is looking for a new home. If you are interested in this piece (pictured above), please send me an email and I can put you in touch: wren@be-kin.com. The bed is a double bed size.

At Be-kin, we are exploring the idea of a creating a virtual marketplace that supports circularity in our design process and the wider community. This could be a space for you to trade or sell furniture, accessories, or design materials. If you have items that you’re interested in selling or giving away, please let me know.

Until next time,
Wren.
