I am delighted to introduce you to Sophie Lambert, who is collaborating with Be-kin to provide art consulting services.

About Sophie

Sophie is a London-based art advisor with over a decade of experience in the international art world.

Sophie’s expertise ranges from Antiquity to the Renaissance, through to some of the most groundbreaking contemporary artists of our time such as Anish Kapoor, Laure Prouvost, and Marina Abramović.

Sophie’s passion is helping clients discover works of art that deeply enrich their homes and their lives.

She is also a collector herself, and understands firsthand the joys of collecting.

About our Connection

Sophie and I have spent many hours together talking about art and looking at art. After our meetings, I always leave feeling inspired and with a handful of new artists to explore. Sophie is tuned into the power of art and it’s ability to transform how we feel and how a room feels. She is an incredible resource and I’m so excited to collaborate with her on Be-kin projects.

I asked Sophie if she could provide a quote about art that she resonates with. I felt moved by her response:

The impulse to make art is perhaps not so far removed from the desire to collect art. Both involve an engagement with the world and with a visual language, both are exciting adventures of discovery and both result in you having a work of art in front of you…

I have always found looking at art to be thrilling and somehow transportive from the functional reality around me. People ask why visiting galleries and museums is not enough. Jumping in and buying an artwork is a commitment ... It actually scares me to do it, my heart thumping at the moment of decision but once I receive the work, weeks or months later, it really feels like it's mine, that I have a very close engagement with it. As I look at it over time I come to see more and more in it…

Owning an artwork isn't like buying a CD (or downloading a track) or reading a book. You move in together and develop a relationship that grows. It's a responsibility and a commitment like owning a house.”

— Julian Opie
