What is a Home? & Be-kin turns 2!

“…the house shelters day-dreaming, the house protects the dreamer, the house allows one to dream in peace.”
— Gaston Bachelard
This month someone asked me: What does home mean to you?
To me, a home is a physical and/or metaphorical anchor. It’s a space to come back to, to root down so that you feel safe enough to grow and dream.
My own home is in Belsize Park, in London. It is in this neighbourhood that decades of artists and designers have resided: Duncan Grant, Marcel Breuer, Walter Gropius, Henry Moore, Piet Mondrian, and Barbara Hepworth. Circles and Squares is a wonderful book about the artists of North London.
Belsize Park stimulates a sense of creativity within me. Opening the door, and once inside my flat, life-sized plants, collections of books and a forever growing collection of art and art objects dress the space. I feel at home with the vitality that comes from plants, books, and art—I see them as invitations to keep growing, to keep learning and to keep questioning the way I see the world around me.
Today is Be-kin’s second birthday.
One of my goals for Year 2, was to have a home for Be-kin. In July 2022, I started renting a studio space at the Primrose Hill Business Center.
I sit here, in our Primrose Hill Studio, writing this newsletter—in awe of all the magic that’s been created over the past two years—and deeply grateful for all that I’ve learned in the process.
Thank you all for being part of this journey. I’m so excited about all that's to come.
Until next time,
Wren.
