Highbury New Park Apartment
Our client approached us to design his first property in London, in the switched-on neighbourhood of Highbury & Islington. As a New Zealander, he was used to a lot of light, and we felt inspired to create a space for him that would feel warm and soothing to come home to, after a busy day working in the city.
We completely refurbished the apartment, installing new flooring and wall finishes, a bespoke kitchen and joinery, lighting and furniture.
As part of our holistic design journey with this client, we learnt about many happy memories he had in his childhood home – this inspired us to incorporate aspects of this joy-filled space into his apartment including the cork walling and textured rugs. This helped our client feel more at home in his new property and life in London, and serves as an example of holistic design in practice.
A monochromatic colour palette was widely used to create a calming sensory experience, with bursts of aubergine in the kitchen and hallway skirting boards to add contrast and depth. And for variety we also incorporated a huge range of textures including linen, leather, natural wool and porcelain.

“Be-kin helped me transform my new flat from being run-down, to something that truly reflects me and my personality. I loved how much care and thought went into her thorough process to understand what I liked, what spaces resonated with me, and how I wanted to ‘feel’ in my flat. The result was not so much a process of picking colours and furniture, but rather establishing ‘vibes’, and working from that for a fantastic result. The result is a home I am constantly delighted by. Wren and her team were a delight to work with, and diligent, professional and responsive. I would highly recommend Wren and Be-kin to anyone wanting to create a home that is a joy to be in.”
